The Home Delivered Meals program, frequently called “Meals on Wheels,” provides a hot meal to seniors who are unable to shop and prepare food on their own. Home delivered meals may be received for an extended period of time, or on a temporary basis due to illness, or following release from the hospital. Meals are generally delivered by volunteers.

Home delivered meals are available at all of the county’s meal sites on the scheduled meal days listed above.

There is no set fee for home delivered meals. Participants are informed of the suggested contribution prior to receiving meals. Food Stamps are an acceptable method of contributing for meals.

Frozen Meals are available to elderly people who are unable to shop and prepare meals, and where hot home delivered meals are not available. Frozen meals also provide a minimum of one-third Recommended Daily Allowance.

The meals are labeled with instructions for cooking. A serving of bread, butter, milk, and dessert is included for each meal. These meals work well in the rural area and for people who receive only one hot delivered meal each day.
